"A day without laughter is a day wasted."
Here are some ideas to inject a bit of fun and laughter into your existence, by following in the footsteps of Charlie Chaplin, the timeless cinema icon.
Born in London in 1889, Chaplin achieved planetary success in the United States, but chose Switzerland to settle down for the last two decades of his career. In 1953 he moved into a manor at Corsier-sur-Vevey, the Manoir de Ban, overlooking the beautiful Vaudoise Riviera.
The manor has just recently been restored and turned into an excellent museum: Chaplin's World. More than a museum, it is an invitation to discover the magic of silent movies and gain an intimate look at the actor's life and his family. The affection and attention to detail make for an unforgettable experience that has already delighted visitors from around the globe.
Winter is coming, and the region has much to offer during this season. Right next to Vevey, Montreux is rightfully famous for its fairytale Christmas Market. A huge number of food and craft booths, the giant illuminated ferris wheel, and lavish Christmas decorations make for a wonderful outing for visitors of all ages.
Continue on around the lake to the Vaudoise Alps for a day of fun in the snow. Get your heart racing with some skiing or a ride on the incredible Alpine Coaster, and marvel at the breathtaking mountain panoramas.
On your way back, don't forget to stop in at the legendary Chillon Castle, a medieval masterpiece perched on a rocky outcropping right on the lake.
